Origin in the Khavinson research program

Epitalon was developed at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology under V.Kh. Khavinson's research program. It emerged from work on Epithalamin — a pineal-gland-derived peptide preparation — and represents the defined synthetic tetrapeptide form of that earlier complex.

Sequence and structure

The published sequence is Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly. Molecular weight is 390.35 g/mol. The compound is supplied for research as a sterile lyophilised powder, sealed under nitrogen.

Primary research literature

Published Epitalon research focuses on telomerase activity, pineal-axis modulation, melatonin-rhythm research, and gerontological research models. The Khavinson laboratory and collaborators have published a substantial body of work since the 1990s.

Telomerase research focus

A defining feature of Epitalon's published research literature is its focus on telomerase activation studies. The 2003 Khavinson et al. paper is among the most-cited references in this area. Subsequent literature has continued to characterise Epitalon's effects on chromatin organisation in the late stages of cellular replication research.

Storage, reconstitution, and handling

Lyophilised Epitalon is stable for months at −20°C in its sealed vial. After reconstitution, store at 2–8°C and use within 14 days. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
